Dental Sealants: Extra Protection for Growing Molars

What Are Dental Sealants?

Sealants are a thin, protective coating painted onto the chewing surfaces of your child's back teeth (molars), where deep grooves make it easy for food and bacteria to get trapped. They act like a raincoat for the tooth, keeping cavity-causing bacteria out.

Why Kids Benefit Most

  • Molars usually erupt around ages 6 and 12, right when brushing technique is still developing.
  • Sealants can reduce the risk of cavities in those teeth by a significant margin.
  • The application is quick, painless, and doesn't require any numbing or drilling.

How It Works

We clean and dry the tooth, apply the sealant material, and cure it with a special light in just a few minutes per tooth. Sealants can last for several years with normal wear and are checked at every regular visit.
